CucinaPro 178 Fresh Pasta Set Review

This pasta machine set works! I was hesistant to buy based on other reviews. I have made several batches of pasta & had never done so before. The instructions were adequate to get me started along with having viewed some youtube videos. I made a big pan of lasagna & fettucine alfredo the first night I had this. It is easy if you follow the directions & a lot of fun.

I also bought the motor for this item. Thus far I have only attached it, but have not used the machine with it. I will update this review afterward.

UPDATE:

I have now used this pasta set with the motor attached. All I can say is WOW! What an improvement! Spend the for the CucinaPro Electric Motor - 400-MO, you won't regret it. Make sure that you slide a cutting attachment in place when using the motor or it will make the pasta machine off balance & it will fall over. For me this is not a problem as the cutter attachment makes a handy self-feeder for the dough when the dough sheets get long. The motor also eliminates the annoying falling crank handle & frees both hands to handle the dough which is again convenient when the dough sheets get long. The motor does not attach to the ravioli attachment because that attachment is narrower than the machine, despite what the motor's instructions say, again not a problem for me.

The instructions say to run a batch of dough through the pasta machine & cutters to remove machine oil. I ran 2 complete batches through before I had "clean" dough with no evidence of machine oil.

I paid about 0 for the pasta set & motor. Compare this to the Atlas or Imperia: motor-0, pasta machine with 5 attachments-0; total-0! Note the Imperia is also made by CucinaPro.

Amazon asked me to review this item, but even though i was charged for it it never arrived. I am an amazon prime member and i make thousands of dollars of purchases a year, and most go smoothly, but when it was time to try and report an item that shows in the system as 'shipped' but never made it to my home - well, then you see the entire amazon store is automated and nobody to talk to if there is a problem. The 'call back' feature from customer service has failed, and the special complaint form also had a technical glitch after multiple return visits to the site. For this low of a price it is not worth the agony - but i am hoping SOMEBODY at Amazon may read this and come to the rescue. Maybe Amazon Prime members deserve to get an 800# we can call where a person actually picks up the phone???

I have bought and tried just about all the Chinese Pasta Mixer-Extruders that are being sold today, including the Ronco disaster and the Pasta imPerfect (and its' 3 or 4 clones that have interchangable parts with the Pasta Perfect.) and have decided that you need to invest at least 0 to get a combination unit that has a ghost of a chance of performing decently.

I have had good luck with two different units: The somewhat pricey Kitchen-Aid pasta extruder attachment (which requires the ownership of a Kitchen-Aid mixer, and this cheap little Atlas manual pasta extruder. Both units require you make up the dough in advance. With the Kitchen-Aid you have the dough hook and all the other great equipment. With the Atlas, you can use a fork, flour, eggs, your hands and whatever else, to create your dough.

With the dies included, you can make spaghetti, macaroni, noodles, lasanga and cookies. Who cares about the 8 other dies that don't work very well in the other machines anyhow? It is a manual machine. Nothing to jam or burn out. Easy to clean. And it does its' thing quite well! This is the unit to get if you want do what pasta extruders do best. Roller type pasta makers also have their place, but you can easily afford this little angel and a roller machine as well! Obviously I love it!
